LORORS – Round 2 – Sees Growth With Trophy Kart 450 RS

Once again Trophy Kart teams showed up by the dozens to race short course in the Lucas Oil Regional Off Road Series. Round 2 of the 2013 Season took place at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park on Saturday, April 13th. The pits were packed and the grandstands full of over 3,000 paying spectators that enjoyed the very comfortable, but breezy, sunny Southern California climate.

The 450 RS Trophy Karts compete on the track at the very same time as the Walker Evans Racing RZR class, so there was a full field of cars providing a lot of great racing action. Right in the middle of the pack were five 450 RS Trophy Karts mixing it up with the powerful Polaris 900 RZR UTVs.

Being a “13 and up” drivers division, allowed for a diverse mix of racers to compete in the 450 RS Trophy Kart. Bradley Morris got behind the wheel for his first time and during qualifying and went onto set the fastest lap in the division. Rod Anderson would driver for Bradley during the main event. Blake Melbourne was competing to defend his 2012 class championship title and Corey Andrews made his appearance as well. DJ Norr, a professional quad racer who just brought out his new 450 RS for his first race weekend, qualified 2nd fastest and went onto to take the main event win. Also to make the main event podium would be Matt Baker who laid it on the line and ended up with a well deserved 2nd place finish.

Trophy Kart’s Modified Division saw as many as 16 competitors at Round 2. This division is for experienced racers in the 8 – 15 year old age category. Before the youngsters go wide-open in this extremely competitive class, it is recommended that the rookies start out in the JR-1 and JR-2 divisions.

Trophy Kart supported Team Driver, Hailie Deegan is a 2 year veteran racing in both Modified and JR-2. It is really all about getting seat time and honing your racing skills. In the JR-2 main event her practice and experienced all came together perfectly. Young Hailie qualified 5th fastest, so she started near the front of the pack and raced her way up into podium position. By lap 12, She made all the right moves and had zeroed in on the first place car #422. As luck would have it, the leader got a little squirrelly and Hailie was right there to move into 1st place which she would hold onto all the way to the finish with just over 1 lap to go.
